Tea Tuesday: Honey Lemon Rooibos

Tea Tuesday: Honey Lemon Rooibos

Ahhh Springtime in Minnesota, just when you get used to the 60 degree days in February (which is totally not normal), the temps plunge down to the single digits again and you get snow.   I can't complain too much because I chose this climate to live in.  I could still be in California enjoying the Bay Area weather.  But I actually enjoy seasons, and there is definitely variety when it comes to weather here.

What I don't enjoy is the sniffly sore throat colds that come with the drastic weather changes.  This past week one of those colds hit our family hard.  Sniffles, coughing, and sore throats galore!  When I was a kid my dad used to make us 'hot lemonade' basically hot water with lemon juice and honey.  It was the perfect soothing drink and I make it for my kids when they get colds.

With this week's spotlighted tea I wanted to create that feel in a tea. I used a honey flavored rooibos for the base and added dried lemon peel to offset the sweetness and give it that tart lemon flavor to create Honey Lemon Rooibos (original name huh?)

If you aren't familiar with Rooibos it is an herb from South Africa that is also known as Red Tea. It has a lot of the same health benefits of tea leaves, since it has a lot of the same antioxidants as well as some extras and a wealth of minerals to boot adding bonus health benefits.  What it doesn't have is caffeine, so for people who don't want or can't have caffeine, but still want to take advantage of the healthy aspect this is a great option.  It also doesn't have any oxalic acid making it safe for people with kidney stones.  If you search for the health benefits of rooibos you will find all sorts of them from stomach ailments, bone health, hypertension, insomnia,  diabetes, skin issues and the list goes on.

Traditionally Rooibos is served with milk, although I will admit I only learned this recently and have yet to try it.  And I don't think this one would be the best one to try it out.  Although I can see the Godiva Roche or the Mint Bon Bon being even more delicious with a splash of milk.

If you would like to try out this soothing tea for yourself I have a special deal for you.  For the next week you can try Honey Lemon Rooibos out for just $10 with coupon code HLR10 valid through 3/21

I look forward to sharing tea with you soon!
